The constellation Aries honours Chrysomallos, the golden-fleeced, winged ram sent by the gods to rescue the royal children Phrixus and Helle.
This magical creature was the child of Poseidon in the form of a Ram, and the beautiful Theophane, a woman he transformed into a ewe to protect her. Theophane was the granddaughter of Helios, the Sun God, and Gaia, the Earth Goddess—binding fiery Aries to sea, sky, and earth.
